The Italian Grand Prix: Monza Pre-Qualifying Predictions

Formula 1 Tips For The Italian Grand Prix

Please note, this blog is just a bit of fun to test myself and see how well I really know formula 1.  It's simply for my own benefit to keep a record of how well my predictions do, and not intended as advice to be taken by anyone else.  If other formula 1 fans want to view my tips out of curiosity then that's fine, but I'm in no way proclaiming myself to be an amazing formula 1 expert.

In general I always like to wait until after qualifying before placing my bets, so to test whether that's the best strategy or not I'm going to make some tips before and after qualifying and see which set of tips do best.  I'll give myself 100 points and place a few hypothetical bets using the odds available from OLBG.com and see how I do.

To Win Outright (Eachway):
30 points on Mark Webber at 21.0.
For whatever reason, there always seem to be more generous odds available on Mark Webber than the other top drivers, despite the fact that his form compared to team-mate Vettel is a lot closer than the bookies seem to realise.  The Red Bulls haven't been on the top of their game during practise, however, but at odds of 21.0, Mark Webber looks a decent eachway bet for the win.

To Finish On The Podium:
30 points on Kimi Raikkonen at 2.75
Kimi has finished on the podium at four of the last five races so his recent consistency make him a generous bet for the podium at odds of 2.75.

To Finish In The Points (Top Ten Finish):
30 points on Nico Hulkenberg at 2.38.
I was torn between Nico Hulkenberg or Bruno Senna for a points finish bet but in general Senna tends to qualify worse than he races, so if qualifying goes to form then it makes sense to hold off on Senna for now as his odds may drift out slightly after qualifying.  Hulkenberg therefore gets my vote with a 30 point bet at odds of 2.38.

Fastest Lap:
10 points on Paul Di Resta at 41.0.
Fastest lap is always a bit of a gamble with the likes of Kamui Kobayashi, Sergio Perez and Bruno Senna having had the fastest lap at various races throughout the season, so a speculative small bet seems the way to go in this market.  Tempting propositions include Perez at 21.0, Senna at 41.0 and Di Resta at 41.0 but Paul Di Resta's strong showing in final practise was enough to tip my opinion in his favour with a 10 point bet on Di Resta for fastest lap at 41.0.

As already mentioned, I'll reassess things after qualfying and offer another selection of tips, and then see how my predictions compare.

Disclaimer:  A small bet can make a formula 1 race more exciting but the unpredicatability of the sport mean that having a large bet is just stupid.  Gambling can be a risky business so never bet more than you can afford to lose.  The safest way to bet is with points rather than pounds, so if you'd like the chance to gamble risk-free with points for the chance to win cash prizes then a website worth visiting is OLBG.com.  It's free to sign up and they offer cash prizes for the most successful punters in various sporting categories.  If you'd like to check it out then click on the link below:
